July 7, 2014

Finally! Rolex, finally comes to present a new version of its iconic GMT - Master II. And for the first time in its history, this Rolex GMT-Master II generation is equipped with a splendid piece, black and blue two-tone ceramic bezel. Certainly a future classic.

Rolex GMT-Master is probably one of the best-known Rolex in the world. Indeed, one of the Pythian. Thanks to its famous two-tone bezel: blue and red for his version called "Pepsi" or black and red for his version called "Stendhal".

For years and years, could see it on the wrist of many actors and celebrities. In the movies - recently Manu Payet Radiostars - or in the TV serials - including on the wrist of Tom Selleck in Magnum.

When Rolex presented the new generation of GMT-Master II in 2005, with a new 116710 reference box slightly more massive and a bezel Black ceramic (the first to benefit from professional; originally on the model in yellow gold) craze was rapid and total.

However, within fans of the brand, in particular this model, remained a small regret... Why has the Geneva Manufactory not marketed a GMT-Master II with Fake Watches a two-tone bezel? None said that it was impossible to make a bezel ceramic two-tone without division between the two colors...

Today, it is made. Rolex is able to realize the dream of many Rolexophiles: namely, propose this watch icon equipped with a two-tone ceramic bezel... But before going further in the more detailed presentation of this new watch of traveller, quickly back on the history of this model born 1954...

When Pan American World Airways makes its first intercontinental non-stop flight between New York and Moscow in 1959, the watch used by the crew for navigation is a stop watch Rolex Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master. To simultaneously display two time zones in a clearly legible manner, the 'GMT' will become the official watch of Pan Am, one of the most emblematic airlines of the golden age of aviation.

For the record, when the Concorde flew its flight test in 1960, two captains, British Brian Trubshaw and the French André Turcat, wore both a Rolex GMT Master. Hence, if this model is closely related to civil aviation.

On the occasion of the fair of Basel 2014, Rolex presents a new version of the Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II 904 L steel. The latter is equipped with a bi-directional rotating bezel with first year world representing the day one-piece ceramic Cerachrom disc blue and black and the night.

The new two-tone Cerachrom disc is achieved by a unique process developed and patented by Rolex to perform a component two separate colors into a single ceramic block (a real technological challenge). He obviously echoes the bezel traditionally two shades of the GMT-Master and GMT-Master II of original models.

The Cerachrom disc, introduced in 2005, has the advantage of being virtually scratchproof, highly corrosion-resistant and insensitive to the bleaching effects of ultraviolet rays. Its polished diamond surface offers an unalterable brightness Breitling replica. The 24-hour scale engraved in ceramics is covered with a thin layer of Platinum Deposition PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition). It should be noted that the bi-directional bezel allows to temporarily show

The Oyster case of 40 mm GMT-Master II, extremely robust, is guaranteed waterproof to 100 metres. His physique to the characteristic forms is carved from a solid block of 904L particularly corrosion resistant steel.

Its fluted bottom is tightly screwed using a special tool to the Rolex watchmakers. The winding Crown, fitted with the patented triple seal Triplock system protected by a shoulder cut in the mass of the stature is firmly screwed on the housing.

The black lacquer dial displays sconces index in Chromalight (long lasting luminescence) in white gold 18 ct and Chromalight needles in white gold 18 ct also. In this new version, the 24-hour hand becomes blue (versus green in the version with ceramic bezel black)

As for ice, topped with the famous magnifying Cyclops (2.5 magnification) to 3 h for a better reading of the date, it is virtually scratchproof Sapphire. Totally waterproof, the GMT-Master II housing thus protects effectively the movement it houses.

This model is fitted with calibre 3186, a mechanical movement with automatic winding with date display and second time zone entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Like all Rolex Perpetual movements, the 3186 is certified Swiss chronometer, a title reserved for watches of high precision having successfully passed the Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) Switzerland control tests.

The oscillator, heart of the Watch includes a spiral blue Hairspring patented and produced by Rolex in an exclusive alloy. Perfectly insensitive to magnetic fields (practice for the porticos of security in airports), this spiral presents a high stability against temperature variations and remains up to ten times more accurate than a traditional spiral in the event of shocks.

This new GMT-Master II is accompanied by an Oyster bracelet massive link 904L steel with Oysterlock safety clasp preventing accidental opening. This bracelet has the extension mesh Easylink, an ingenious system patented by Rolex that allows to easily adjust the length about 5 mm for extra comfort in any circumstance.
